Writing:
In this activity, the students are asked to study a “cartoon” character to help them build a bigger picture of who the character is. The aim of the exercise is for them to be able to create their own fleshed out characters in their own writing work. In the first instance we get them to look at the features of an existing character and use those features to help build a description of the character and then build a ‘backstory” of the character from their observations. The images used can be swapped for any other image. We have successfully done this exercise with older students and have used movie characters from movies that the students might have not come in to contact with, for example Al Pacino from Scarface, Kirk Douglas from Spartacus etc
