Computational Thinking PO2/PO3

This coding activity can be completed using using Scratch  or Tynker .  This coding activity is designed to be integrated into a literacy lesson.  The aim is for students to design a word based literacy game, in this case classifying words into nouns, verbs, adjectives etc, but it could easily be set up as a spelling game.  The students who are given this challenge should seek the advice of the teachers of the younger students their game is to be targeted at, in order that the appropriate words are used.

To successfully complete this task some knowledge of Tynker and Scratch is required, but the resource also has several challenges to scaffold the students to success with this challenge, if needed.

If you want to see an example of this program, you can click on the following link.  Obviously, do not share this link with your students as that would undermine the learning intended: Magic Word Hat on Scratch

If you have not used Scratch before then the following video tutorial may help you to become a little more confident with its learning potential. Scratch Tutorial

If you want to use Tynker to do this project and you are not a confident user of Tynker then these tutorials may be of use to you.  The lessons illustrated here also apply to the blocks in Scratch and as such will work on Scratch too.
