Computational Thinking PO1

This activity is a CT PO1 activity, that can be delivered either entirely unplugged or via the digital resource we have created. The idea of the activity is for students to map out their sight words starting from the initial letter of the word and ending up at the last letter of their word moving either forward, backward, left or right.  The unplugged version of this activity requires that you have an alphabet grid in your class, the example shown here can be purchased from K-Mart. In addition the students will need a whiteboard and a whiteboard pen to write down the instructions to spell out their word.

Alternatively, this activity can be undertaken via the digital resource that we have created.  An extension to this activity would be for students to find three different paths to spell their words and get their partner to check whether their path successfully spells out their word.  Again, the coding could be changed to indicate where the letter is in the code that the speller is landing on to make their chosen word.

To use this resource, simply make a copy of this resource and rename it so that you become the owner of it then adapt it to meet the learning needs/intentions of your students/planning.  If you want us to make more of this kind of resource please contact us at david@dakinane.com and we will make more resources to share with you, related to your need.
