Computational Thinking PO1/PO2
This activity is a CT PO2 activity that could be introduced to students in year 2 or 3, it is intended as an integrated activity that combines literacy, numeracy and tecnology and as such could be quite a lengthy unit of work for the classroom, depending on student engagement and motivation to the task. The activity gets students to identify the sequence of events in the book and also the positional language of the text. The students then create their own versions of the path taken by the bears and plot this on a grid. The students are also required to extend the language of the book and record their versions. Finally the students then have to design, build and create the physical obstacles of the book, lay these out in the class and then program an Edison robot (or any other robot) to navigate the course, just as the bears in the night do.
